NPD - VFE Bass Triiiumverate

Love this pedal! I need to gig it more. I usually go for clean lows (or mostly clean), slightly overdriven mids, very dirty highs. It can get tones that are in the dUg ballpark.

Nice. Yeah so far I'm doing something similar. Just barely gain on the lows. One thing that would be great on this pedal is a trim pot or master volume. But it's got enough ha.

You use any of the internal trim pots?

Crappy live recording: Zoom Q3 set up in the middle of the bar.

I think it's cool to have the ability to tweak the crossover points, but I haven't yet: partly because they're internal, partly because I haven't felt the need.

The VFE Rainbows Unicorns Puppies pedal (very big brother to the Triumvirate) has the crossover controls (and many others!) available externally, but it's a huge pedal, and twice the price.

I have one on order along with a Woodchipper. I'm glad I got my orders in before he made the change to the new format; I'm not sure there will be any more of either pedal in the future. Same with the Mini Mu (which I already have).

Wow, thanks for the update. I completely understand Peter's reasoning, but I will miss the custom shop, and I can't imagine the Triumvirate in the new format.

Here's more detail on the change: http://vfepedals.com/transition.html

On leap day he had a one day sale in which for every pedal ordered without any options he would build 2 (so if 4 people bought pedal X he would make 8 of them to clear out inventory of knobs, colors and LED options), and once made people could pick from the built pedals. It was a good discount, and he's going to end up with an inventory of leftover pedals that people didn't pick. I can't imagine him not having one last sale to kick them out the door, I know there will be at least one bass voiced Triumvirate in the batch.

Question: are these pedals only available on the vfe website? cause I did try finding these pedals on certain online music stores and they don't seem to carry them.
For the moment, all you probably can find is used since he has discontinued the custom pedals for the time being and he never had a huge dealer network. Reverb probably has a few. I was going to sell my Bass Triumvirate recently, but fell in love with it again after hearing how it just slices thru a mix.

That's ridiculously stupid. I would never pay that much for those.

I have a proto RUP still and it's awesome! Nothing else quite like it.

For real dude. He makes some seriously fine pedals. But those prices are just ridiculous. For where the pedal world is today, there's no reason at all to buy those at those prices. Aggregation when stuff like that happens.

Okay...I did see one at reverb.com. I might purchase one from there.

Just make sure it's tuned for bass. I'm not sure there is an actual electronic difference between the guitar and bass versions. It may simply be the internal trimpots are set differently but all the components are the same. But, he does have a bass and a guitar version and the bass one is the one you want. I factory ordered mine for bass, and the serial # has a "B" on it. There's a pic of mine from when I had it for sale here a few weeks ago in the thread below. You can see the B in the serial # on the box.

For Sale - VFE Triumvirate bass. Local sale preferred.

I think this is the best pedal I own. Used it today in church to add a little grit to my signal. But we run no amps with a PA and a Sub where most of the bass goes through. With my Dark Driving, the lows cut enough I fell out of the sub.

I hastily re-eq'd the tri for more overdrive and less distortion. I also cut the signals WAY down as the pedal tuned for my amp and cabinet is way different than tuning for direct into a PA. With the Triiiumverate, I got my grit and overdrive with near dubstep lows. Amazing!!!

I think the Triumvirate is one of those rare pedals that sounds kinda weird played alone in the living room, but sounds absolutely killer in a mix. this is why I originally put mine back in the drawer....I could not get it to sound good in practice time. But when I played it with a band, it was uncanny how well it just sliced right thru. Me personally I see this pedal becoming a true future classic/rarity, and I decided to take mine off the block for that very reason.

Okay...I would assume that either version works well on bass. but if you think the bass version is a better choice, I'll keep that in mind.

Same pedal, but the crossover points are configured for bass by the manufacturer. Here's a review that was done on the pedal, and they even admit the review is on a pedal that is now out of production. On that note I got an email that my Woodchipper shipped today, so now I'm waiting on the Triumverate and I will be set.
