Hi!

A TB challenge - I wanna see your best examples of flame maple necks, fingerboards, head plates, anything including really a tiger-like, stripe flame maple wood excluding the tops/bodies :)

Either something you've owned or not, doesn't really matter. The crazier, the better!

I'm looking for inspiration! :bassist:

Go!

Deep V contour w/ some birdseye and a little flame.

Sorry, this INCLUDES a flame maple body, but also fretboard and headstock.

This is a bass I commissioned in 2018, received in 2019, and sold 2 weeks ago. It's fantastic, but I just didn't know what I wanted when I specced it out. I should have gotten a 4 string, and I should have gotten different pickups. Great bass, and the builder absolutely met all my requests. No fault on the bass or builder, just myself.

Live and learn!

I have nothing to show but as for treating wood to get colors, I've used aniline dye in the past. Powder mixed with liquid (water in my case) then brushed on. Clear finish goes over that.

I turned a walnut body bass I was building into a dark transparent shade of purple. With maple neck. Very cool.

Aniline Dyes

I see StewMac sells color tone liquid stain in small bottles. Hmmm.

There’s the neck I installed on the Thunderbird I built last year, it started life as a used Fender/Squier neck I purchased off of eBay for about $150. I reshaped the headstock and then had it refinished by Pat Wilkins…

I know you’re not looking for body shots, but here’s the finished bass in full sun highlighting the flame on the headstock…
