I sold a bike yesterday so money was hot in my pocket.

Loyalty Pawn #3 has a fretless Yamaha 4-string I keep trying to buy but only one pup works.

I had zero intention to buy a 5iver since 4 strings seem too many already for me.

I've always loved that MM humbucker sound and the Official Licensed Product 5-string sounds a bit similar.

Probably would have preferred a 4-string but there it was.

Neck is not that wide and pretty thin. Weight is manageable.

No hum to speak of. Despite Web trash talk frets are pretty smooth. Love the maple/maple.

Good raspy tone from the one giant pup. I like it.

I'm used to D'Addario XL nickels, have TI Jazz flats on my P'bass.
What's some good ones for the OLP? Flat and round.

Love a pawnshop buy, this one was $159.95 usd amero simoleons currency on the barrel head. Plus high CA tax.

Good site to learn starting on a B string?

Will the Nordstrand MM pickup improve tone at $121 worth?
Easy drop-in job?

Thanks for any help.

Well, thanks for all the help and interest. All my questions have been answered and I have all the info I need for this project. Going to have to end this popular thread as I am unable to respond to the volume. Thanks TB, you came through again!

I played one briefly years ago, and that was my experience, too. I had no unrealistic expectations that it was ever going to be able to "smoke" an EBMM StingRay 5, but it worked quite well in context. Unfortunately, I didn't hold on to mine long enough to experiment with a pickup swap.
Very strange that you didn't even get a single like on your original post. Quite an anomaly.
Well, we had to wait at least 30 days, because, well, y'know... ;)

Nice bass! Looks like you were unlucky with timing, seems the original post was at 2am UK time, so I wouldn't have seen it. Hopefully you get more traction now

Sorry I can't answer your questions, just don't have the experience with those instruments. I can tell you it's a stunning bass! As far as learning to use the B, I'd start by playing songs you know well using it - if you have a riff that heavily utilises the open E, start at the 5th fret on the B. Just get comfortable with using it, and making it feel as second nature as the other four strings. It will take time.
