Hi Guys,

I have recently decided to put a new pickup in one of my old basses that I would hardly play.

The pickup I put in made the bass feels sooo much more even and solid. However... now I am wanting to patch up some more "issues" the bass has- as now I am wanting to play it more and more.

Long story short I am finding that the sustain is not great and was wondering- is the most probable reasoning for this the bridge?

What bridge would you recommend to "add" sustain?

FYI the bass is an OLP 4 string- which I have turned into a fretless.

Does it rattle?
I would check the relief on the neck.

no rattle.

Also the bass does sustain- but am wanting to know how to improve it to get the most sustain I can out of the bass.

I changed the pickup height a bit and didn't notice any real difference with the sustain.
Then you are getting about as much as you are going to. Unless the current bridge is improperly installed, a new bridge won't help; even then, if the new bridge is improperly installed you still won't see any gain. Lighter strings MAY help as there is less, more flexible mass to move.

Cool, thanks for your help.

Happy to not spend money if I wont see gain.

You can improve a bit with a really heavy mass bridge (a Babicz. Hipshot or Schaller).
I wouldnt do that, probably the bridge is about the same price as the bass...

that's alright its been just a project bass and I have had some fun with it but as soon as I put a good pickup in it I fell in love with it again. I am happy with it for what it is.
