Hey everyone,

Has anybody bought from.Bass Direct UK or Thomann? If so how was the experience....how were any duty fees, etc handled..approximate total cost to have a bass shipped to US

Thanks....David

I find their prices outrageous when converted to dollars. Maybe if there is a product not available anywhere else in the world, but 'why?' comes to mind. 600 pounds sterling for a Mexican p-bass? 600u.s. so 38% more.

@Paulabass

I think you're including the 20% VAT in your figures but you're right it makes no sense to buy a MIM Fender from Europe :)

@david bennett
You'll probably have some form of import duty to pay but that's your only concern. Thomann do massive business, at least $900 million in sales each year. Pretty impressive for what is still a family business :thumbsup: Even in the USA your 3 year warranty is valid and you have free returns for 30 days. If there's a problem Thomann email you a return label, you just print it and then hand the box in to USPS.
Make sure you order through the US Thomann setting so you don't get the VAT prices.

Thanks for the info...so on their website they have a US setting?
At the top right of the Thomann page,below "Repair Service" there is an option to change currency and country.

Prices charged will be less 19% German VAT. If your import duty is less than 19% your on to a winner.
BTW shipping to the USA is $36. $US are ballpark so keep an eye on exchange rates and pay attention if using Paypal, PP never give good exchange rates.

I bought a Sandberg Basic 5 from Thomann a couple years ago. There was no major taxes or shipping fees that I had to pay. Bass arrived 2-3 weeks after I ordered, with a perfect setup(and it was actually in tune out of the box!)

I had absolutely no complaints or issues whatsoever with ordering from Thomann.(I lived in NY at the time, for what it’s worth)
