Saturday night in San Francisco I attended a great 3 set concert at The Warfield Theater in San Francisco (The House that Jerry Garcia Built!) I attended a few north of 100 real Jerry Garcia Band Shows in this venue between 1987 and 1995 so it's always a treat to return and try to catch some of that magic again...

I vid capped some of the 2nd set and the whole 3rd set except for the start of Dear Prudence beccause my cam battery crapped out.

Oteil Burbridge brought a lot to the third set standing alongside local Jerry guy, Stu Allen and the great B3 Master: Melvin Seals. The band also featured the terrific Pete Lavazolli on drums and Jerry's original back up singers: Jaquelyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones.

As for an Oteil solo, I mangled the beginning of Dear Prudence but preserved his solo and the end of the song:

Dear Prudence

Not against Oteil's interpretation of Prudence - but that was the only song where I thought his groove lacked a connection to the Garcia Band version.
Seemed to me like he was internally fighting between McCartney's original bass line and the spin that John Kahn gave to it.

Regardless - I was super psyched to see Oteil blaze of these songs and Stu was kicking ass (as usual).

I have vids of some of set 2 with Zach Nugent (out of Vermont) tackling the Garcia stuff and he was pretty aggressive with it.

Here's a buttload of vids from Oteil (3rd set). Worth watching if you are Dead inclined.
If not - sorry to dissapoint ya....

Sounds like a great show! I saw JGB a bunch of times and always liked how much groove and soul they had. I watched a few vids with Oteil and John Mayer and thought that they brought some of that to the GD as well. There are many ways to interpret their music, which is one reason I've always been drawn to it. P.S. Did you see John's '58 P-bass on Reverb?
I think they were asking $17K for it.

Cool to know that JK's bass is for sale!
I'm gonna check that out.

I saw roughly 110 Garcia Shows at the Warfield.
I saw many more elsewhere - East Coast and West Coast.

Kahn was way more fundamentally a pocket bass player than Lesh.
I loved his grooves.

Unrelated to my post above - except for the JGB connection:

If you have interest and read this far - spin this crazy, insane, fantastic sounding Sellersville, PA - JGB show recorded by Charlie Miller (Soundboard) from a 2007 show with Stu Allen, Steve Kimock (guesting) and the fantastic Jimmy Tebeau on bass along with Melvin Seals. It seriously kicks ass:
