What kind of pickups would you recommend for upgrading my Ibanez Mikro's stock J and P pickup to get a more punchy sound?

What I like to achieve is a punchy aggressive, yet clear sound, I figure that would be pickups that favors the mid range spectra, but which would do that for me?

I've been looking at the Seymour Duncan Quater Pounder set, but it seems to emphasis the treble and bass spectrum, according to the charge on their page, and not sure if that is the right thing for the sound I want to achieve?

Edit: Forgot to write it needs to be passive pickups as well!

Only concern now is how I will mount them.

Any idea if the connectors on the solderless wires will go through the tiny holes and tunnels that are carved through the Mikro's body from the cavity housing the output jack and volume and tone potmeters to the cavities for the pickups, since there is no external route hidden under a pick guard?

Dimarzio DP126 set. Rotosound strings. Punch city.

Thanks for the suggestion, think I will go for the EMG GZR though, as I am no wizz with a soldering iron and don't own one.

Not that it would have stopped me, I mean I could just by one, they aren't too expensive, and I have tried soldering before.

The EMG's seems as good a choice as the Dimarzios though, so I just go with the easiest solution, unless you can say for certain I would be better off with the Dimarzios?

For sure the EMG plus cobalt strings imo will help

I had a set and they had punch, growl, and clarity

I found the dimarzios to be too grindy for me
Just listen to billy Sheehan

Adding cobalts to the equation along with the EMG pickups will help

I've used both, and the Dimarzio pickups are the most punchy and mid present set I've ever used.

That said, the EMG Geezer set is what I would pick in my gear of the two.

Two different animals. The DiMarzios are way hotter, aren't as bright, and have a huge hump in the very low mids. The Geezers are more like a vintage Fender pickup with a more even sound up and down the spectrum, with more brightness but not overbearing brightness. I think the DiMarzio set is excellent for what it does, but for an all-around PJ set, I'd go Geezer every time. There are a lot of really good PJ pickup sets out there, but no other pickup I've heard puts me quite in the mind of the pre-CBS Fender period like Geezers.

Is the J pickup in the EMG Geezer set hum-canceling on its own like the DiMarzio Type J?
Yes.

Yes, it's a humbucker. And 39, that's what I'm using right now. Super happy with it.
Thanks for the info!

Wow, I would not have thought that about the Geezers at all. Now I am very intrigued...
