Hey, I'm a bassist in a heavy metal band that's still trying to fix the tweaks in their sound, such as tones. I have a crappy rig right now that consists of a random Kustom practice amp going into a old beat up Peavey speaker my dad had laying around in the garage. I'm also using a Sansamp Bass Driver DI and an Ibanez Soundgear. That bass tone that I think would work with the sound we're trying to get out of the band is something like Paul Gray's bass tone, from Slipknot. I know he used Warwick Basses and an Ibanez ATK, Peavey amps, and a Sansamp like mine, but I can't quite get his tone with my gear. I'm currently saving up cash for a Warwick Corvette Standard and a new amp, probably a Ampeg SVT 3 Pro going into a 4x10 bass cab. Paul used an Ampeg for the first 2 albums and switched to Peavey during the 3rd album, so does anyone think I can get close to a Paul Gray tone with the gear I have now or the new gear I'll be acquiring in the next couple of months.
