Hey TB,

I discovered one of my Peavey 1516 cabs doesn't have the original Black Widow is it, but has a 15" Peavey Pro.

Here is what I know...
Originally had a 1502 4 ohm BW (2.6mm Xmax)
Cab volume for 15" is ~ 3.5 cft
2 90 watt 8" drivers in a separate 0.6 cft box (I'll likely replace these with 2 Emi Alpha 8A)
Internal Crossover is 600Hz at 4 ohms
Cab was 400W RMS Full range using the crossover.

SO before I pull the trigger on a new 1502 4 ohm BW. I was hoping to get a 1505 BW instead (closer to 5mm Xmax) in 4 ohm but they are no longer made or available.

Is there another 15" Driver in 4 ohm that would be a substitute for the 1505 Black Widow? Like an Eminence or whatever That's under $200??

Was just wondering if something was available as an upgrade, or am I stuck with the 1502 for the driver?

Also, I really want this to remain a 4 ohm cab.

be easy to find a used 4ohm on the net. or find a used 15" peavey combo amp for hundred bucks or so with a 4 ohm driver. eminence has CA154 but it has poopy sensitivity and stamped basket
there might be a eminence impero that's 4 ohm

Right, but all the Peavey Black Widow Bass stuff had the 1502s in them, WHich are easy to get, I was hopeing to find a 1505 4 ohm, I havent been able to find our what the 1505 DTs were used in unfortunately. The 1505 KADT's were use in PA gear but are worthless for bass...

Would a 4 ohm Emi Delta compate to a 1505 DT BW?

the session series of peavey combo amps dominated the pedal steel market. and we're loaded with 4ohm 1505. there's a session 500 driver on eBay It's 4ohm 1505. but those might not be dt could be the similar kadt

the delta is somewhat similar to the
3mm black wwidows on paper or in simulation it looks equal. but It's cheaper stamped steel driver and has same 3mm Xmax

Which 1505 tho? I'm guessing for steel guitar they were the 1505 KADT, which are only 0.9m Xmax. The 1505 DT (4.6mm Xmax) is the one I'm wondering if there is an equiv for since a 1505 DT BW 4 ohm hasn't been made in a while. I looked around but not seeing a lot of 4 ohm options..

Speaker - Sica Bass, 15", Neodymium PL15B25S, 250W, aluminum

I can't read pdfs on my phone what the neck is the xmax on this 4ohm 15" it's a cast frame neo. they have a stamped steal 350 watt version of
it too in 4ohms iIt's good price I just can't read the xmax.

also you'll notice that alot of 5mm 15" speakers that have 98db sensitivity. the 4ohm version drops to 96db. be interesting to know if the 1505 does the same. if so keeping the cab at 4ohms the extra wattage gained is useless cause the extra power needed to get to the same place sensitivity wise is the same or possibly less. when the 4ohm version gets to same spl as the 8ohm it takes a extra 140/180 watts to get it there and can actually hit xmax way before the 8ohm version. if the 4ohm 1505 is only 96db not 98db. might as well use the eminence ca154 It's only 96dB as well if you want the 4ohm load. It has less high-end but your crossing over at 600 anyways

cause yes correct not many 4 ohm options

Maybe you need to expand where you're looking a bit: US SPEAKER - 4 ohm speakers by Eminence Speaker, Jensen Speaker, JBL, Peavey, P.Audio Speaker. 4 ohm bass speakers here.
