Hey all!! Starting a new thread instead of filling up the official Peavey Cirrus USA bass talk.
I appreciate when I can find good references for basses I own concerning good baseline setup data for those style basses. I haven't seen a thread or document with specific Peavey Cirrus baseline details. I have tinkered with the settings on my Bubinga/Walnut 5 Cirrus and found a setting ideal for tone and playability I would like to share. Not all basses are created equally and these settings may not be your ideal, but could be a good starting point. I do not know the factory Cirrus setup so I started from scratch. Everything measured inches.
Strings - Peavey Cirrus brand 45 - 125 (2 - 4 windings) I also follow the "witness point rule"
Neck Relief (first and last frets pressed down, feeler gauge at the 8th fret) - 0.020"
String Action (measured at the 24th fret following fingerboard radius) - B: 8/64, E: 6.5/64, A: 6/64, D: 6/64, G: 5.5/64
Intonation (measured with 12th harmonic and 12th fretted) - I play more or less between open and 12th so I set intonation a tad flat so notes below 12 would be better in tune.
Pickup Height (measured in line with pickup screws E and D strings NOT pressing down the last fret, bottom of string to top of pickup) - E string side 5.5/64 both pickups, D string side 6/64 both both pickups
Nut Height (pressing down at third fret and feeler gauge under first fret) - measures from 0.005 B side to 0.003 G side.
What this gives me is a consistent string to string sound, minimal string buzz when playing up to a low aggressive style, strings don't contact pickups when playing this way, a great slap tone, full bodied, and almost a chorus like or airiness character. I also have the Millennium preamp installed for mid control.
Well hope this helps someone! Let me know if you have questions or share your setup experience with the Cirrus!!!
