Ok. So I got this bass from a friend who grabbed it off a garbage pile. It appears to be an early 90's Peavey Fury as detailed in this thread: another one of those "what's this"? threads...
I've never actually done a complete disassemble/restore of any bass so this is a first. I will attempt to document the process here. I would appreciate ANY suggestions, input, help of any kind as I don't know what I'm doing. Here's some pix of things after disassembly. Whoever owned it before definitely had it apart on more than one occasion. I thought the bridge was pulling off but it appears he just put too much ground wire (including insulation) under the bridge when he reassembled. A couple of extra, unexplained screw holes in the neck pocket and what looks like a neck tilt adjusting device. No clue if the electronics even work. I'll address that on reassembly. The neck appears to be two piece and was nice and straight when I removed it. I'm assuming the truss rod is ok. It does have some digs and scratches on the back. The tuners seem ok and I probably won't take them off because I don't know how and don't want to screw them up. I figure a light sanding on the back then an oil finish. The body I'm going to strip to bare wood (I don't know how I'll accomplish THAT yet) and if it looks nice, leave it natural and maybe clear coat it? There's lot's of gluey s#!% on the back from some stickers. Frets all look pretty good. I work full time and play out on a semi-regular basis so updates may be a while in coming. The bass is filthy so cleaning as I go along will be the norm. I'm also going to need a string tree, a truss rod cover, and a Peavey decal for the headstock. Wish me luck! Here's some pix of the beginning of the project:
