Decent bass in general for just doing a few fill in gigs ? Would Fender style Jazz pickups fit if a person wanted to change in the future, or any upgradable tuners available ? your thoughts in general on these bass,s , Thanks .

Very decent bass and a huge seller for Peavey worldwide. Tuners are of the "Gotoh" variety, not actual Gotohs just look like them.Same tuners Peavey have used for years, one's on my G-bass are getting on for 20 year old and work fine.Standard size pickups if you want to swap. The big fella bass player for Mark "Porkchop" Holder plays the 5 string both for live and recording.

I've owned both the 4 & 5 string models. Decent basses for not a lot of money. You can pick one up on ebay in good shape if you're patient for under $150 used. I wouldn't upgrade. They sound great and stay in tune just the way they are. Get a good setup on it and you'll be happy with what you bought.

I have two of the 4's (one will be fretless soon), helped a friend buy and setup a 5, and watching for local used 5 for myself.
We think they are great.
I play in church (big variety of styles) twice a week, and they perform well.

I think about "upgrading" pickups, but then just go play and they sound great.

Very light weight, and perfect balance.
Nice neck, if you like narrow/ thin/ fast.
Holds in tune, very stable.

GHS Pressurewound strings have brought out a very clean tone (for me).
String bridge or through-body.

ok so it does offer top loading then ? on the specs on sweetwater it says through body ?
Sweetwater gets it wrong sometimes. I asked them if the fretboard on the Cirrus reissue was Pau Ferro, they said "yes". Peavey said " No, it's rosewood !!". Since I was looking to import one to Europe Sweetwater's mistake would have caused many problems with CITES.

Mine are the "previous model," and string either way.
The "new model" that came out about a year ago have the "Power Plate" and maybe even a nicer finish. If you look for example at the for sale pics at this link:
New Peavey Millennium 4 | Music Go Round Castleton
you can see that this is the newer model and it does still have the same bridge and can string either way.

Just got what I think is a good deal on a used one , sunburst , ran into a drummer I use to play with and got to talking about bass,s , he said he would take 125.00 for his, I bought it ,came with a good gig bag too ! It does top or through load , would Labella deep talkin flats light gauge be ok on it , or should I get the Extra lights ? It appears to have a skinner neck than some I may have played before .

No need to be going to extra light or even light gauge. Millennium BXP necks are rock solid, I've one been strung with Fender .045 to .105 flats these past 3 year and no ill effects. Fact is when Peavey closed their UK facility I bought Millennium BXP necks as spares for older USA necks.

Just a little revive for this thread as my Tiger Eye Millennium Bxp is being a little temperamental at the moment and I may need help. Seeing that Kodiakblair is “just down the road” is reassuring.

I’m a novice so don’t always know what is right and what is wrong, but I have already had to lower the action and I’m getting inconsistent sound. Put on some cheap flatwounds and it sounds better but could do with some pointers or measurements for pup height etc.

Thanks. It’s probably just that I’m still early days into playing but the sound on the bottom two strings is a little raspy but the top two are bright and clear. I lowered the action because I was having trouble fretting clear notes when playing any sort of run, then realised the action was way too high. I think the pups were sitting too high too as there was a lot of noise. Oh, and the knobs aren’t smooth, but I’m guessing that’s just a cleaning issue.

Is there a set of numbers that are a good starting guide for a Millennium action?

Yikes! My pickups are a bit low, and when I loosen them off there is nothing holding them out. That can't be right. Shouldn't there be a spring or something? There's simply nothing to keep them up to the height I set. The screws stop them coming higher, obviously, but I needed them raised by a few mm to be near a standard setting.

Unless you can tell me different. The guide I had states something like 2.3-2.6mm.

There should be springs or a foam pad. A jazz pickup is roughly 19-20mm high and the screws average 36mm long.

That 2.3-2.6mm reading you are getting,is that taken with the string fretted at last fret or open string ? To my mind 2.3mm gap on an open string is much too close.

Ah right, so the numbers I quoted are the ones given in a setup guide, not what I’ve actually got. However, live pointed out my stupidity: I’ve been aiming for those figures on an open string, not fretted. I’ll have to go back and look. The lack of spring/ support is an issue though as a small nudge sends the pup flusher. It also means that it moves when I rest my thumb on it. Looks like I may need to do some slightly more invasive adjustments - new springs for a start.
