Peavey TX or Gallien Krueger 410MBE-II 4x10 400 Watt Cab (8 Ohm)

I currently own a Peavey TX 410 cabinet, that I use with a G-K 700 Rb. I like them both, they are great workhorses. I have an opportunity to purchase a G-K 410 for less than 200.
It is lighter and matches the head...but is it as good or better than what I have? I do not wish to just throw around money...but I want to keep with good quality pro equipment! Thoughts?
Thanks,
-Dave

I used to own a Peavey TVX410, which I believe is similar to the TX410 (could it be that one has tolex and the other rat fur?). The TVX lacked mids, it sounded mid scooped to me (which is fine when playing on your own but does not cut through in a band setting unless you are overpowering everybody else). There is a easy mod for those cabs; pull the inductance coil (which allows the drivers to run full range), it makes a big difference. Just do a search on Talkbass for "Peavey TX410 crossover mod" or something like that. It will cost you nothing other than a bit of time and you may find yourself having a little more love for this cab.

I have the MBE 4X10 ,its sounds good and can be carried with one hand. The older tweeter x-over board is apt to burn out,but Jason at GK replaced mine free of charge(5 minute repair). You can run cab w/o tweeter.

I use the Peavey 410TX, and recently pulled the entire crossover network.
The cab is really alive now, and while I'm interested in the new PVH410 the most likely scenario is finding another 410TX and modding it, too.

I put 4" wheels on all my cabs so they roll great anywhere.
90 pounds isn't too bad if all you're doing is lifting them into or out of a truck twice a night, and stacking/unstacking usually happens when there's help available.

Been using Peavey gear for 40 years and never had a blown speaker or amp failure.
