PF-115LF now or save for an SVT-212AV - for use with a PF50T

I've got enough cash to purchase my dream "P-bass" rig. It will be an Ampeg PF50T head and one of the two cabs mentioned above.

I have enough to get the 50T and the PF115LF but not enough for the 212AV. It would take at least a few months to come up with the rest of the scratch needed.

I know that the PF115LF would do just fine. I've tried one and like it. I haven't had a chance to try a 212AV and doesn't look like I'll be able to- none around. I just shake the feeling that the 212 would be substantially better.

I am leaning toward the instant gratification. Should I go for it or hold off for the 212?

Are you going to get the 115 and want a second cab? If yes, it is more cost effective to get the 212. Is the price right to buy the PF-50T and 212AV now, pay most of it off, pay the rest on installments over a few months? Some places off low or no interest. Instant gratification and the 212.

I'm pretty sure that the single 115 would be enough for anything I'd be doing with it. The bands I play with aren't loud.

I'd rather not owe anything, I prefer to buy outright.

Id go for the 212. I had the 212 for awhile, then added the PF50T. Its a great cab for the money. Gets louder than the 115, doesnt weigh that much more, isnt that much bigger. As long as you dont want to flip the head into the cab, its a better choice in my opinion for gigging.

It still blows people away that im giggin a 50 watt amp, but its really the sensitive cab that makes it all work so well.

Yes, seems lots of players can not imagine not needing a 1000 watt rig for practice and a 2000 watt rig for gigs!

I prefer the 212av just because I like cabs that sound more like the 810e than those with super ultra lows like the PF115lf and 410hlf. I ended up getting a PF112hlf instead, though, and that has turned out very well for me. But if you're down with the super lows and you already know you like the PF115lf, play ball.

Bigger cabs take up more space. There's something to be said for smaller cabs. I get by with my B-15N and appreciate the compact size. At the same time, bigger cabs offer more sound.

If you can, worth a trip to try both cabs out. Even better if you can audition them with the PF-50T.

How are you liking the PF112hlf JimmyM? IIRC from the specs (which you can't always go by!) it rolls off higher than the other PF cabs - more along the lines of the AV cabs.

Yeah, I do prefer a little low end. I'm on the fence- I've wanted a 212 for a couple years now but is it worth spending twice the money? I'm not so sure.

Without looking at the specs, or cost comparison, let me just throw out another possible speaker setup to go with the PF50t. What about two PF112hlf cabs? Probably not cheaper, but it is scaleable, and probably an easy, (two trip without a cart) schlepp.

Edit: Jimmy, you need this setup.

I really only suggested the two PF112hlf stack to go with the PF50t, because that's what I'm gassing for. I've already got six, various, (unless I'm forgetting one) 15 inch PF cabs, (and a 212), so I don't really need them, but I think it might be a really nice rig.

Oy there frijoles-on-toast; ;) I'm guessing since it was in this discussion you meant the 212AV being 4ohms, which is correct. I owned two, 112AV cabs and they are 8ohm cabs with the single 12" driver. No bigggee, except if OP would consider a SVT112AV, he could then add a second 112AV if he so desired to. I was quite impressed with what one 112AV cab was capable of, though that was with my ri-V4B amp.

I am sort of in need (want :rollno:) of a small-ish cab such as a 112AV, I never should have sold both of mine. :banghead: I still have the 212AV and yes, it is a pretty great sounding cab. But I have started getting booked for these lower volume, restaurant outdoor patio happy hour gigs. So I could use a 112 or 115 cab for these gigs. But that 112AV is pretty price at about 500 bills. I have a couple TC-E RS210's and I've used one at this gig with plenty good results. I also have an older GB NeoX 112T cab that works very well using one of my micro-amps with either cab.

I ran this by jimmyM asking him if he thought a single 210AV might work for me using my V4B with a 5 string bass. He felt this might be asking too much of this one little cab, so I may just work with the cabs I currently own. Maybe OP will consider a couple 210AV's? Might serve his purpose at a much lower cost. All good, carry on. I love trying to spend other peoples money. :smug:
