Phil Jones combo EQ problem?

I bought a used PJB double 4.
The bass control knob works but the mid and high seems to do nothing.
is this a malfunction any one else has encountered? Whats happening, or not?

In much searching I have found no reports of any such D4 problems at all.

It also has a 60hz hum of which 90% goes away when I "ground the amp" with
my finger. This is usually a shielding problem but does not happen at all
when I plug into my Ampeg rb110. The D4 has a laptop style power supply
with only 2 prongs (no ground). How did they expect to get away with that?

I'm playing a J and P bass. I am aware of the hum inherent in the J pickup
arrangement but the P does it as well. The Ampeg rb110 is completely silent
with either bass.

The previous owner might not have provided you with the correct power supply. Contact Phil Jones to verify and order a new one if it isn't correct.

While you're at it, ask PJ about the EQ, as that doesn't sound normal.

it sounds like it's totally broken.

but just in case verify, you have the switch on 'high', as with a 30K input impedance it surely won't sound right with a passive bass. maybe not that much as you're describing, but definitely worth double-checking.

My D4's power brick is a 3 prong. It also labeled as Phil Jones Bass Switching Adapter.

Same behavior either way. Never heard of an EQ 2/3 broken.

Perhaps contacting the manufacturer’s authorized service center would be a good first step?

You bought damaged goods , did the seller know this ? Contact PJB to find a service center , hope the cost is reasonable .

If you received a manual with amp, the eq section explains how the eq section is a little different than most amps.

Bass - will cut and boost like usual.
Mid - seems flat when fully cut.
Treble - boost kick in a little higher than usual.

the 'flat when fully cut' isn't stated in the manual you linked, but indeed the d4 is very mid hefty, until you turn the knobs.

I interpreted cutting instead of boosting gives a truer bass tone as being closer to flat, as has been my experience.
