Piezo pickup on Kala SUB UBass not consistent across all strings - common issue?

Hi guys, I hope you can help me.

I've just bought myself a Kala SUB UBass to try and get back into playing bass since a worsening of my disability which makes regular basses too big and heavy for me to play.

I've never had a UBass before, and I'm really digging it, it's so cool and compact to play. But I think I have a problem with the under saddle pickup. The output on the E and A strings is loud, but the output on the G string is way lower (the D string output is somewhere in between). Tapping on the saddle with my finger confirms that the output is lower on the D/G side.

I have reported the problem to Thomann and have asked them to send a replacement UBass, but they want me to send mine back first. I'm hesitant to do this in case the pickup on the replacement is worse, or the guitar has other issues. Sending guitars back and forward from the UK to Germany is a bit of an inconvenience!

I'm therefore posting to ask fellow SUB UBass owners if they have experienced volume inconsistency with their pickup, or if I have just been unlucky with the UBass I received?

Many thanks.

Before you send it back, pull the bridge saddle under the G string. See if there's any dirt or sawdust or anything under the saddle, preventing it from making good contact with the piezo element.
And make sure the bottom of the saddle is flat.

If there isn't anything obvious preventing full contact with the pickup, send it back.
