Hi y'all
I think I know the answer, but I've been chasing the problem for some time.
I have a VM Special Jaguar -
I removed the old controls, running all passive. Shielded with snail tape, grounded poles to shielding, electrical taped the controls. On any pickup selection (V/5way rotary/wierd dpdt norm-mid sweep tone - it was what I had on hand) I get 60c hum. It goes away when I touch the poles, control plate.. but not when I touch the bridge.
I'm gonna pull the bridge (installed a Schaller myself - it's a 5 string bass now, on a 4 platform w/a replacement P neck but whatever) and see if I didn't flub the ground wire contact.
To qualify, I shielded my Jazz in the same way - it's DEAD quiet. All the time. It has Ent neodyms, maybe that helps, but I'm curious as to why it worked and the Jag didn't. May have to do a more careful shielding again - it's not the conductive adhesive type tape, lots of roll-overlapping involved. I thought I had it good, but I've a feeling I gotta pull it all and go for it again. The Jag has an ENT neo in the P position FWIW. Thanks
