Please give me your thoughts and feedback on this song from my new band.

Sounds pretty good overall. (but who tf am I?)

This might sound crazy, but, I think the bass is a "hair" too loud. (maybe it's the guitars being not loud enough?)

I also feel the vocals are a little loud, again, maybe it's not enough guitar.

Could be my cheap speakers too.. but when "avg Joe" plays music, he's probably not listening through Pro Quality Studio Monitors.

I like the song and production choices as well as the mix, I do not think the bass is too high in the mix. I am interested in how this will fit in an album context as AOR is my preferred experience and it seems is coming back with folks listening to vinyl or in that mode again.

I hear what you’re saying. Compared to a standard (guitar biased) mix, the guitar is not as loud as you might expect, especially in the verse. But as a bass player listening, enjoying the tasty work of a fellow low ender, you’ll get no complaints from me. I wish the bass was that prominent in every mix! Actually I wish you could adjust mixes while listening the same way you can adjust EQ. I remember my first bass teacher had a stereo recording of a bass player jamming some 12 bar blues. Pan left and get isolated bass to study, pan right and get bassless band to try my own licks with, and everything in between at the turn of the balance dial 🤘

Its good. But the guys are all over it already. Vocals too loud, guitar too soft, bass is good. I'd probably ask you to play around with TONEs. The one you have is "OK", but I'd look for other more interesting tones and/or maybe change it up throughout the song.

No. 1 , the song is good ! In regard to the mix , I would bring bass down a hair in the mix , drums could be brought up , bring up guitars and bring down vocals (good) . Overall , I would give the guitar and bass a little more bite/tone .......... ;)

I’ll echo above. Tasty cut, pull down the bass a scoche, (did I just say that?) up the guitar.
The vocal level will then be good.

“If it were me”:

From a production standpoint, imho it’s overall a bit dry. Adding a bit of reverb, everything in a large room will “biggen” the sound .

I'd like to here your feedback on everything. My bass lines, my bass tone, the mix, the guitars, the vocals, the song structure, etc. I have thick skin, so don't hold back.

I think it's A fine song. Nice build up , good vocal. Love the accompany instruments. Bass part is tasteful and recorded well. Nice job!

Another person I spoke with felt the vocals were a touch too loud in the beginning verses.

The guy doing the mixing has said that he wants my bass to be prominent in the song. Others have noticed how up front it is. Thank you for your feedback!

That is a good question. We do plan on recording an album's worth of material. As this is the first song to be fully mixed, I was hoping to get feedback on it to apply going forward. I haven't thought about it in the context of an album, but I am very sure my mixer has. @TonyP- gave it a good listen to, and one of his takeaways was (roughly) "This guy has a goal, a target, and he is hitting it. Let him keep doing what he's doing." So hopefully from first song to last song there will be consistency and value. Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you for taking time to listen to the song. The tone we went with is on the mid-range side, to be more prominent. Can you give me some examples of tones you think would sound good in this type of song? Something to compare to?

Thank you for the compliment on the song itself!

When we started recording, we went through a LOT of different basses, inputs, strings, etc. This one won out as the mixer felt he could work the most with that sound and fitting it into the songs. However, we are talking about making tweaks and adjustments for future songs. Thank you for your feedback!

Thanks for the comments. For clarity, when you say "add a bit of reverb", do you mean to one thing (like the guitar), or to everything?
