For my design project in school, I am designing a bass amplifier. Could you please answer a few questions to help me out: Google Forms - create and analyze surveys, for free.

To elaborate, my current design brief (work in progress and susceptible to change based on my research) is to design a bass amplifier for frequently traveling or on-the-move bassists, that minimizes weight and size, whilst still producing a high quality sound. Initially I was considering the idea of designing a combo amplifier - suitable for a good sound when practicing with others and for small gigs. I was considering utilizing the empty space of the cabinet, as storage and/or a possibility to reduce the size of the cabinet when transporting. Based on the majority of responses so far, I have noticed a preference of stacked amps (~78%) which has inspired the idea of a cabinet that can decrease in size, possibly into an ergonomic backpack, with additional storage space inside for accessories, etc. Separate ampheads could bossibly even be carried inside.

Feel free to give me your ideas on the design concept, and any suggestions or improvements you have on the matter.

BTY, I was confused on the question related to portability. I own a class D amp (GB shuttle) and a full tube amp (SVT). A slight 80-ish pounds difference between them but I love both amps!

Thanks for letting me know. I will try to clarify some of these questions. Essentially I am thinking of designing an all-in-one combo amp system (including a speaker), which can be carried more easily than say a stack amp which would also require a speaker to be connected, by creating a collapsible cabinet.

This design may not be for every bassist, but is mainly targeted at bassists that may travel to different (smaller) venues and want to minimize space.

A possible design may for instance be a bass amp that can be converted into a backpack size product when not being used.

Designing a new product is no easy task but you’re taking the right path by asking questions.

Some of the questions are a little vague. For example the "How easy to transport" and "How heavy do you perceive a bass amplifier" questions, since it puts small practice combos and full-size auditorium systems on the same scale.

Thanks for the feedback. It is definitely a learning experience for me, and I intend to make an improved and clearer survey based on the feedback I get from this one. I am very grateful for the extensive feedback and survey submissions I have received, which will definitely help me to develop my design ideas and initial research
