Plucking/popping - where do I put the rest of my hand during the pluck/pop?

So, I'm very amateur with the slap and pluck/pop stuff.

I've realized that when I pluck/pop the string (say.. open G string, for example), that I'll use my thumb to apply pressure on the string/fretboard so I can have enough force to pop the string up with my index finger.

I have a feeling this is WRONG, as this may create additional noise.

Am I supposed to only have my index finder touching the strings by the pickups when I do the pluck/pop? Or am I supposed to rest some of my fingers on the body or something?

I don't know what to do.

Is it comfortable?

You could try resting the fingers of the left hand on the strings that aren't being played to avoid getting that noise you're talking about.

It's easier to pluck the string up, but the thing is

Say I slap on open E (thumb) then immediately afterwards I pluck open G (index finger).. my thumb will have come back and touched the E string again at the same time I do the pluck.

What do people typically do? Do you pluck with your hand raised? Is your thumb literally resting on a string(s) during your pluck? or?

It'll be hard to explain without showing you so I'll attach this video. I started doing this about 7 years ago. It's different from the Flea/Larry Graham style, but it sounds just as good and is easier to execute, I think. Just take your time.

Or you could check out the traditional Flea/Larry Graham style:

Usually, the hand position while slapping is very different from each person, because as for all the other techniques there is a 50% of instinct approach, and if that's is comfortable to you then you need to follow some directions to help get the highest result with your personal approach.
Otherwise, another way is having your hand resting on the strings, try also to better calibrate your wrist, essential feature to get great dynamics on thumb and pluck.
I attached one of my sample video to give you some ideas, there are other videos with the cam on the fingerboard so you can better see the hand position.
