Popping D: middle/ring knuckles rest on G string

Hi,

My popping technique has gotten to a point where I can get my index finger in and out through the D string without it touching any other strings, but my middle and ring finger knuckles tend to rest/touch on the G string while popping the D.

I haven't been able to notice any clicks or harmonics because of this (yet), but was wondering if this is considered acceptable technique or something I should work on fixing.

Thanks!
I'm using a Ray4 so strong spacing is a little less than a Fender Jazz.

I pop with either 1st or 2nd fingers. Often it's popping D with first finger and popping G with 2nd finger. One should always be able to knuckle thumb slap any string at any time.
I don't double thumb. It's not a protest, it's a handicap. I don't really have a vic wooten kinda thumb.

I am not really sure what you mean. How can your ring finger touch the G string when you pop the D string? Can you post a picture? Or better yet a video?
