Hey! I'm an intermediate DB player and I was looking for a bow that I should buy. I don't have that large of a budget since I spent a large portion of my money on the actual DB. However, I did find a bass bow on Sharmusic.com for $180. It is the Presto® Carbon Fiber Double Bass Bow. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this bow and could just tell me about it and wether or not it's a good bow to buy.

Eh. Keep saving, because quality only hurts once.

The most interesting-sounding CF bow I've heard is the Glasser braided carbon fiber. I own a $1200 Carbow that outplays it but doesn't sound as nice.

If you happen to play French, there's one in the classifieds right now for a bit more than your budget.

I'm still very impressed with the Gollihur $150 bows. The trouble with a lot of inexpensive bows is that they seems to have some glaring flaw - the Gollihur works well, which is to say there's nothing glaringly wrong with it and it sounds pretty good - and the price is right. It's what I give to all my students who rent from me. I haven't tried their next model up, which is $250, but I'm getting ready to buy another bow and thinking about doing that.

Presto® is not a name I associate with musical instruments.... But I'll second the Finale from String Emporium. Excellent value.

I have the Coda Bow Revelation and the "Presto" bow.. (I don't know how to tell what model or anything though.. I think it was $200-300 I can't remember..

I think the Revelation bow was more $600?

but what's wrong with the Presto bow it seems ok? I can put up a sample using it... no problems..

Do you mean a sample using the CODA bow or the Presto bow?

whichever one you were thinking of buying or just want to hear.. but of course it's on my basses and not yours..

but the point is that they were only $300 and $600 carbon fiber bows and they have no problems ....

I guess you would have to be a real experienced classical back-grounded guy to really know anyway..

you have to play them on your bass..

i went to david gage and tried bows out.. i ended up seeing and hearing and feeling that i didnt need a $1200+ gold bow...

the sound didnt get better the more money i spend...
