Push/pull pot to disable bridge pickup

Hi,

I’m trying to do a simple mod to my P/J bass. It is intended to disable the J (bridge) pickup so that the bass functions as a regular P bass on demand. Usually this feature is achieved by rewiring and making use of a 3-way switch so that the player can select bridge/both/neck. Since a) I can better live with both/neck options; an b) I don’t want to modify the pick guard to put the switch; I was thinking about the possibility of using a push/pull pot for the bridge volume that allows me to engage the pickup when down and disengage the pickup when up.

Trying to figure out how this would be implemented I arrived to the following wiring scheme. The question is, would it work as I expect? The light green box is the push/pull pot.

Needless to say that my knowledge about this is very limited so, please, by kind if my idea is too dumb 🙂.

Thanks in advance!!!

It’s certainly a good idea and I’d encourage you to go for it.

The diagram is really close. However, you’d want the pickup lead on the middle terminal of the switch, the lead to the potentiometer on top and the ground lead on the bottom. All three on the same side of the switch. Sorry, I don’t have a great way to draw it up on my phone.

Thank you Matt for your quick answer, I appreciate it a lot.

If I understand well your instructions, the wiring would be like the diagram attached. Is it correct? Sorry for asking again…

That should work. I’m used to seeing the switch terminals turned 90 degrees but if the off and on are in the wrong position just switch the top and bottom wires. In other words exchange the ground and the wire to the potentiometer.
