QSC K10.2 In The House

Well not quite. I have been using my K10's for over 4 years now and I really like them. I broke down this weekend and ordered a pair of the K10.2's from Sweetwater. What pushed me over the edge was the 24 month no interest financing.

So should be here in 2 days which will let me gig with them Saturday.

I checked with QSC ahead of time about my covers. They said my current covers WILL fit. :)

Anybody else bought a pair yet?

I fired them both up today. First gig is tomorrow night. I didn't do a side by side with the old L10's as I didn't have the time.

Out of the box I have nothing bad to say. I would say they seem louder, maybe 1 at least :) They sounded fuller and better balanced. I would say that is due to the larger size of the internal amps and the fact the majority of the power now goes to the woofer.

The active control was simple as pie to work through. I liked the crossover control. On the original K10 it was either sub on or off. Worked fine. In this one you can choose of or 80, 100 or 120hz as your crossover points. Very useful. Furthermore I found that when you power down and power back up, the speaker remembers the last setting. Nice touch touch.

I also like that I can stack them. I never tried it with my original K10's so I'm not saying I couldn't do it but it does have a tail sticking our of the bottom. I play in a few rooms where I want to use a single source for my speakers instead of the usual left and right of stage. Normally I put two K10's side by side and splay them a bit. The stacking will allow me to make a quasi 'array" setup. I'm not sure ow that will work out but I like the option.

More after the gig.

I've heard the new ones side by side with the old ones and the difference in both volume and audio quality is very apparent. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Were you comparing them at high volumes? My experience with the K series is that they sound great until you push them from moderate to loud and the high end gets harsh, as if the compression driver is overdriving. If that has changed, then they will be more in par with the Yamaha.

I'd say they were at what could be considered a quite loud gig volume. The compression driver is all-new/redesigned, combined with the increased headroom of the amplifier and improved DSP I doubt that you'd have the same experience with the new models.

Pretty much you have to have them firmly in the limiter before they get harsh. I've done it running 4 K12's in splay array over 4 kw-181's. 2 per side. I wasn't happy with the sound but the client couldn't hear it. It was freakin loud at FOH. AC/DC tribute band... go figure. I've gone to a much, much larger rig for sound company gigs at this point. I still use k12's over 181's in my band.
