Quarter Pounder in a Lakland 55-64

Has anyone tried the Seymour Duncan QP 5 string pickup in the Lakland P-bass? I don't necessarily have any major complaints about the stock Lakland pickup in my skyline series 55-64, but i have been curious to try something different. I don't want to throw money away on a negligible upgrade but I could use a little more presence out of the b-string. maybe a little more punch too, but still full and "vintage". I play hard rock/metal, primarily.

If no experience with the Duncan, any other recommendations for a drop in 5 string P-bass pickup?

One thing with Seymour QP's, some love them, some (include me) dislike those pickups because they are way overwound and anything but "vintage" subtle, textured, nuanced pickups. (They are at bass pickups what a Carl's Junior Quarter Pounder is at fine cuisine) All this to say, this pickup is not for everyone. If I wanted a bunch of stones thrown at me I'd say they are great if you like a huge tasteless blob of bass sound with glassy highs that will get you lost in the mix.
And "punchy" is not the word to describe them either since they are more scooped than most other split-coils.

You aren't gonna think anything vintage, imo, tons of boom, less presence than what you have, more low end slam, on the QP. I agree with Frenchy, but, if your goal was to shake the floor hard, without cranking volume, QP might do it.

I think if you are after powerful mids, a lot more output, and a pickup for serious rock, then yeah, the QPs would be perfect. If you are after something like a great traditional sound, they are about as far away from traditional as pickups come (that was the point). We do make other trad-sounding P-Bass (5 string) pickups, but the QPs aren't them. At all.

You asked for other recommendations...

I have 5564s with both nordy and Hanson vintage pickups.

The Hanson vintage are just what they say... Vintage....if you like Fralins.... You will love these.

The Nordys are a bit more modern and aggressive... The lakland neopunch ( which you may have) is even a bit more aggressive and " hi Fi" IMHO.

thank you sir. I do like the vintage tone, but would like to tweak the sound a bit for my current band project. I don't believe i have the neo punch based on my research. Thanks for the recommendations!
