How much louder are the Acoustic and Ukulele basses unplugged compared to the electric bass unplugged? I'm not at home often and can't carry an amp with me and was looking at these 2 as an alternative for when I'm not home.

If you're in motels, one of those amplug headphone amps might be the way to go. I know my ABG would disturb the people next door, across the hall and more than likely, above and below me.
I've never played a uke bass, but i think the scale would be an issue for me.

I know we are in a bass forum but...
For playing outside easily without amplification have you ever tried an actual ukulele soprano? You can find a good for beginner one at 50$ and learn how to play it (sufficiently well for little satisfaction) in one month or two.

I've done this and when I'm out of home I bring just my soprano uke. It has plenty of volume and it let me play some music way better than a uke bass or an acoustic bass could.

Furthermore the uke is for me the definitive sofa instrument. Back from work two chords and you're happier.

If you need any suggestion on ukes or uke book feel free to ask me or take a look at the imho really good ukulele underground forum.

Not to disparage the Kala Ubass, I like my striped ebony fretless a whole lot and I use it daily...

But acoustically these little ubasses really sound like an acoustic cigar-box bass, and they're about as loud as an acoustic cigar-box bass too. Well maybe a little louder if you play near the bridge and punch it hard.

I'll sit down in the wee hours of the morning and work up bass lines for songs with it that I'll apply later to my double bass, and no one else in our modest-sized 2-bdrm 2-bath house will hear the ubass.

But where these little ubasses really shine is when you plug them in -- they're crazy for tone and volume.

Judging from my experience, if you start playing one of these ubasses when you're not home (ie: traveling, vacationing, etc...), you'll probably want to keep playing it when you get home. Fortunately they sound great on stage.
