Peter Green died in his sleep last night. The guitarist was founder of Fleetwood Mac and inspired many also-influential musicians. He didn’t play bass but, like me, many of the bassists I’ve known through the years would have loved to accompany him. Thank you P.G. for all you gave us.

Like many musical ‘acid casualties’ like Syd Barrett and Skip Spence, it would seem that there were already some underlying mental issues in place; his lyrics and demeanor conveyed some depression, at least to me. The LSD just aggravated what was already there. I’m not quite sure what you mean by “voodoo”, but he definitely grappled with spiritual issues. This gorgeous, decidedly non-bluesy track written by him, was their only #1 hit in the UK....

But we know he is laying it down in guitar Heaven for Rhianon, Black Magic Woman, Jewel Eyed Judy and even the Long Grey Mare. Let us hope he escapes the Green Manallishi with the Two Prong Crown.
