Rare Pokemon found...

Cute. I know dumping on Pokemon Go is a cottage industry now and lots of fun. But actually, I think it's a brilliant idea. It's got a lot of screen-addicted couch potatoes out in the fresh air taking a walk for a change (including my own teenagers). It turns out my wife's library is a "gym" so they're playing up the Pokemon theme and attracting a set of people into the library who otherwise barely darken its door. A percentage of them may even realize it's a cool place and (gasp) check out a book.

Yes, it is easy to make fun of but you are right on everything the game has going for it. It gets people outside and walking. Want to hatch a Pokemon Egg? Go walk 2,5, or 10 kilometers outside. I've seen a lot of kids in my neighborhood riding bikes and playing.

A lot of small businesses are taking advantage of the game too. I saw a sign that said "Battle Pokemon and enjoy ice cream here." Or coffee shops or bars are setting off lures to attract Pokemon and keep people there longer. And like you said, bringing people to the library.

Lastly though, it is a social game. Go out with your friends or family. Show off your Pokemon or discuss tips and tricks.

Yes, how dare people do something they enjoy that also encourages to go outside, get exercise, and socialize.

On topic, I love Pokemon Go, I was in my early teens when the show, cards, and original game boy games came out, so this is like renewing my childhood.

I think there needs to be some kind of safety parameters built into the game though. I almost hit a teenage girl with my Jeep two weeks ago as she was clearly following a Pokemon on her phone's screen and walked right onto Yonge St (Toronto's busiest city street) while not paying attention to the traffic at all.

This. Sure, it's great. Whatever. So is skateboarding. But you shouldn't do that looking down at a screen or in the middle of a war memorial either. Also, it encourages people to trespass. I have heard stories here locally of random kids jumping over fences and running through people's back yards.

It will happen soon enough. Some poor kid will wind up getting shot by digging through the bushes in a stranger's yard looking for a digital animal.

Play the game. Have fun. But don't be an idiot. Have some respect for special places and private property. Look up from the screen and actually LOOK AROUND at the nature it dragged you out into for the first time in years.

Duck Dunn. Cute. They coulda at least put a white guy afro and a pipe on it. :D

Quite literally the first loading screen screams "pay attention you dolt", problem is that people think that if they stare hard enough at the screen something wonderful will pop up, usually its a wall or street sign or 70mph traffic.

As for the people shaming the game, its a sad sad state of affairs to do make other people's happiness diminish due to "uncoolitude". I've been playing Pokemon since they came out on the old school Elephant gray and thick gameboy. Playing this version was a no-brainer.

Yeah, a warning at the beginning isn't good enough. There's warning labels all over cigarette packs (in Canada anyway), but that hardly changes a thing...

I've never played the game, but it would seem that they could use the GPS used in the game to do something better when people are about to jay-walk. I actually saw on the news that some guy walked off a cliff playing it, LOL.
