Arbutus Music (excellent shop) in Nanaimo BC posted this today.
Here’s a extremely rare 16 of 25 made, 1938 Rickenbacker upright bass in excellent condition. The people at the Rickenbacker museum said they know of only two others in existence. One at EMP in Seattle, another in a museum in Sidney Australia.
Please inquire for price!

Went to the store to check it out yesterday but apparently the owner of the bass took it back to have it appraised, and was valued at around $100 000. Yowza!

'Paging Geddy Lee....'
So he brought it in there for them to sell before he had any idea what it was worth? Ha. I once nearly had a deal on a bunch of rare old synth and bass gear (including the Roland synth bass that your homie Dave from Moths & Locusts ended up with) for $2500 before someone else informed the guy who had listed it on CL at that price what it was worth and outbid me. I didn't even get a chance to counter...

Hi, thats a great find!

IS that date correct: 1938? —just seems amazingly 'early' for an 'electric' bass instrument to be in production prior to the introduction of suitable metal strings/mag pickups/amps/etc— which were mostly developed in the post–war era circa late 40s early 50s. (I would've thought 1958—1968 at the earliest, but it looks more like a 70-80s relic;))
