Double Bass Rattle in Tuning Peg

Does it have the little spring steel plate under the tuner gear? Somtimes just bending that a little is enough to kill the rattle. Worked on my son's old MIM P bass. The rubberband trick has a nice janky appeal too.

Pic of the tuner? Is it a stamped clover leaf type pressed into a split shaft? If so, those can loosen and your grief maybe solved as simply as a small drop of Loctite.
If it is a flat stamped steel cloverleaf or 'lollipop' button, I place a drop of thin superglue right at the junction of the shaft and button. Let it flow in, and it should work. Loctite might work as well, but most households already have a tube of thin superglue or 'Crazy glue' available.

Yes. If it’s a split metal post that the flat button is pressed into, squeezing the post is risky.
Also, reason I have used Loctite instead of Super Glue or similar is that if I drip (I am a menace with fine repairs!) the blue Loctite can be peeled away.
