Double Bass Ray Brown Plays Bluegrass

I downloaded this show almost 20 years ago, still one of my favorites in the world. No Ray Brown but Todd Phillips is holdin it together!
LOL, I thought this was going to be another in the "Ray Brown Plays..." series of comedy videos.

That Santa Cruz show is something to hear but I think Todd Phillips played the second mandolin. Bill Amatneek was on bass for that show.

The Santa Cruz photo of the David Grisman Quintet shows 3 fine bass players in one band. Tony Rice was a fine Bluegrass bass player and I have a recording of him playing at the legendary Ice House bluegrass festival. When I lived with him for a year in Corte Madera in 1984-85, we often discussed LPs and CDs being played on his stereo with NHOP, Ray Brown, and Paul Chambers doing their low end duty.

Tony Rice played bass in J.D. Crowe's band when Bobby Sloane would play his 1 or 2 fiddle tunes per set. I believe that there are bootleg tapes (now CDs) floating around from that period.
