Recommendations for desktop speakers with good bass tone

Hey all,

I want to buy a new pair of small desktop speakers for my desk at work. I can't listen to music loudly at work so they don't need to be super loud. I don't want to buy a subwoofer but I want crisp clear bass. I bought some cheap Amazon speakers and they aren't much better than the ones that are on the laptop. I would prefer to spend about $50 or a little less.

Any recommendations?

I've had really good luck with Pioneer gear so you may be able to find a used pair within your budget.

Or you can do what I did - buy a vintage Pioneer silver face stereo receiver, some bookshelf speakers, and run AUX from your laptop into the receiver.

I am pretty happy with my Mackie CR3 speakers for recording my bass, general music listening, movies and video games. They are $100, or $85 on Amazon with "damaged packaging". Sorry I can't help with anything <$50.

KRK rocket8's are a bit big, but still fit on a desk top. You won't need a sub! Rocket 6's work without a sub, but lose some bottom octave.

Edit- my bad, didn't notice the budget. KRK 8's are $400 each. Sorry.

I wish I could help you out with speakers, but some go the DAC and headphone amp route, which is a rabbit hole in itself and can be a huge money sink, but can be practical in some instances. I tend to use wicked audio brawler headphones - they're ten bucks CAD, small and easy to carry around, and most importantly: they're great in my situation because they're inconspicuous generic brand stuff that sounds better than it has any right to. I won't say they beat my Sennheiser hd280s, but the fact that nobody bothers me with pointless dribble about audiophile consumerism when I'm listening to something or playing doom is king in my books.

With that said, there's lots out there that can be decent sounding at any price range - at the lower price range you might have to look a bit harder

I paid fifty smackers for one of these. Never looked back :) They're worth a lot more. And, sadly, they're hard to find, these days. But this sort of thing is well worth looking at, along with bluetooth varieties that also allow wired connection.

While quiet listening is a walk in the park, the whole shop could listen in to one of these, strategically placed. Mind you I'd never leave mine at work. It would be wasted there.

Keep an eye out. You'll find something to suit, along these lines. The bass, and everything else, coming out of the Fidelio is mammoth and very musical.
