recording backing tracks off of Youtube?

First, I realize that this has probably been discussed, but I tried searching and didn't find anything. Probably my searching skills here. So any links to other threads here would be appreciated.

Second, this is only so I can play along with them in my own house. The problem I have is that where I have the computer I cannot play the bass. Heck, I can barely walk in to this area without tripping. Way way too much carp, not nearly enough house. And this is AFTER getting rids of tons of stuff.

i play with a Vox headphone amp thingy, and want to put the backing tracks on my mp3 player so I can plug into the Vox and play. I have to use headphones to practice, so just cranking up the computer sound and playing along won't work.

I have pulled literally, thousands of sound files out of youtube videos over the years for educational purposes. I have never picked up any kind of computer crud from it.

Okay, I am asking how to do that. The link posted above was for a free service that converts to mp3 but you have to download the finished file from the converter, and I am not convinced that conversion process doesn't include something like spyware or trojans.

that particular youtube to mp3 converter is the one I always used that no longer functions. there are several other services that are as you describe: Paste the link, do the extraction, download.. I have never had any anti virus / adware / snoop ware / whatever ware detector cough up anything I extracted from youtube. I pay attention, this box is locked down hard and I clean it frequently. There'as a pretty good chance I'd catch it if it was there

the files you get from the extraction are 128 kbps. plenty good enough for educational purposes but not all that big, a meg per minute or there abouts. ATT dinks me $5 for 300 over so, that's maybe a couple bucks to get your band's entire set list into your phone even with verizon spanking you the whole way

OP should be able to use his phone for that. All he needs is a stereo 1/8th" cable to run audio out from the comp to the voice recorder in the phone.
