Remove OBP on Fender Big Block Precision

My first 'serious' instrument was a Fender Big Block Precision bass. I love the playability of the bass, but never really liked the sound. I'm mostly into passive basses and so I was thinking of removing the preamp in the bass, thus making it passive.

Furthermore the bass have an active treble/bass boost/cut control, which I would like to replace with a regular tone control. Should I just throw in a 500k pot? Any feedback would be very much appreciated!

I did the exact same thing. Do some shielding while you're at it. It sounds good passive but the E string can get boomy. It will still have plenty of output.

Eventually I got tired of the boom so I put in a Seymour Duncan Music Man preamp and it sounds fantastic. More grindy Stingray growl than my Ibanez ATK. The preamp is the biggest weakness of the design IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback!

Sid the Kid, does the Seymour Duncan allow you to play more classic kinda stuff as well?
RobbieK, I really like the basic tone- and volume controls on my regular Precision and Mustang. The bass- and treble boost/cut thing just doesn't seem to work for me. Whenever I pickup a Precision, the tone control seems to be a lot more efficient to dial in sounds I like. I also owned a G&L L2000 for a couple of years. It has the active/passive switch, similar to what you propose I guess? However I was always using the bass in passive mode, guess I'm not much into active basses. Also I still missed a proper tone control. :-)
