Replacement Speaker & setup

Hey all.

First post.

I have an old Hartke 2115 (200w with a 15in speaker) and pretty sure the speaker is toast. I want to replace it so I can do two things: (i) use it in the same combi cab with my 200w amp; and (ii) use it as an extension speaker for a new Rumble 800 Stage amp I just bought. The idea would be to have the new speaker mounted in the Hartke cabinet and work as a stand alone amp. I'd also like to have the option of hauling the cabinet (sans amp) and connect the speaker to the Rumble 800 as an extension. Probably won't do that very much but since I'm replacing the speaker looking to see if I can have both options. Any input into a speaker option would be much appreciated. Thanks, y'all, in advance.

Hey, RGB! :) Welcome to TalkBass.

Hmmm, well, if I'm seeing the correct specs for your Hartke, and you still want to get the full 200W out of it, then you'll need at least a 4 ohm, 200W speaker. Or, you could get 120W with an 8 ohm speaker. But, to use the same speaker as an extension for your Rumble Stage 800, then you'll need a 4 ohm, 500W continuous, 1,000W program, rated speaker to get the full 200W from your Hartke. Or a 400W 8 ohm speaker to get 120W.

To add facilities to your Hartke for use as an extension cab, the Rumble Club Wiki page, linked in my signature, has links to several threads about "separating combo amp and speaker", in its Rumble Modifications section, for exactly that. Reading some of them should help you see what all is needed. You would also need to retune the cabinet, as discussed in these threads, for which you would need to use some speaker cab modeling software to get the right configuration.

Meanwhile, stop by the Fender Rumble Club and show us a pic of your Stage to join us. And visit the Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800 sub-thread of the Rumble Club to discuss Rumble modeling!

The Harke would be a bad cab choice for that combo.
One reason is Fender recommends the external cab handles either (look at the back of the combo)
400w @ 8ohms minimal
-or-
500w @ 4ohms minimal

You could take the line out to the working harke combo but the fender wouldn't need it.

IMHO - you should try it first before trying thinking it needs external cabs from other brands added.

Thanks for your help. The Rumble 800 Stage is great. Don't really need anything else with it. If I need more out of we'll just line it to the PA. My first priority is definitely to get the Hartke back in shape as a backup for the Rumble. And, again, if it's possible and before I buy a replacement speaker, just wondering if I can size the new speaker to put back into the Hartke box to also work with the Rumble 800. Basically, there's no real reason to do it other than just interested in seeing if I can pull it off and maybe have fun running the new speaker in the Hartke box as an extension.

The Hartke amp is rated 8ohm at 120w and 4ohm at 200.

What about something like this?
