Replacing Tuners on a Traveler Bass (TB-4P)

I really like my Traveler Bass (TB-4P)—in fact, it's my main player—but if there's one thing I cannot stand, it's the tuners. I think they're actually guitar tuners with a 14:1 ratio. What drives me crazy is you can't insert the non-ball end of a string into the post (there's no hole) for winding so you have to rely on the wraps to hold it in place and the cut end of the string inevitably sticks out, snags on my clothing, and is just a general nuisance.

Does anybody know if it's possible to replace the tuners, and if so, with what? The tricky aspect of finding a replacement is that the "ears" of the tuning pegs have to fit in those little oval wells in the body into which they are recessed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The company doesn't seem to answer e-mail.

Hipshot and Sperzel both make a locking tuner, there may be others. Sperzel makes one that locks from the top of the post. Locking tuners will let you cut the string so only a minute amount of string sticks out. I saw your bass at Sweetwater, but it was completely assembled so I don't know if this helps you.
