Hello all. I remember reading a while back about a guy who restored a '60s 4001. I think part of the restoration included him adding some carbon fiber reinforcement in the neck. Can anybody tell me if they know of any Ric specialists who would do/are still doing that sort of thing?

That would be quite a job, sometimes having the ends of the truss rods re-threaded and buying new nuts will help a problem neck. There's even a British place that sells new 4001 truss rods, they are about 120 bucks, place called RickySounds. I bought new nuts from them and they were exactly like the old ones which are almost impossible to find.

I'm all good in terms of the threads and it has the typical nut reinforcement block that keeps the nuts from angling down into the wood. I've just been thinking lately that it would be nice to give my '74 a bit more stability. It stays put pretty well throughout seasonal changes, I'd just like to make the neck more rock solid, especially since those '70s necks are pretty thin. It'd be nice to have the feeling that it will outlive me.

Mark is not a Talkbass member. He works out of Seattle but has recently moved his shop. He just got back from a long vacation so I am not sure when he will have the new shop up and running.
