Rickenbacker 4003 in fireglo and Hofner ignition bass for a Rickenbacker 4003s?

Not worth it, 4003S are cheaper than the regular 4003 and have a simpler design as it only has mono output. To trade a 4003 and a ~$800 Hofner for a 4003S seems a bit asymmetrical, IMO.
Looking at this from a UK point of view, used 4003 basses seem to hover around £1500. Some go for cheaper, and some go for substantially more, especially if vintage. Right now there is a used 4003S in Jetglo for £1,622.50, and a used 4003 in Mapleglo for £1,853.50, on Ebay UK. Demand quickly and consistently outstrips supply for RIC instruments in the UK. Perhaps the situation is more favourable (for a buyer, less for a seller) in the US? I think in the UK you can name your price if the slow boat from Santa Ana hasn't appeared in a while.
When the 4003S basses arrived here in the UK many retailers were selling them for £1599. I would therefore suggest that a used 4003 bass, in good condition, is worth the same as a new 4003S, and that the Hofner shouldn't come into the frame at all.

The big question is, what do you think you'll gain by chopping the 2 in, to be replaced by a "lower spec" version of one the one's you already have?
I'm assuming that there's a Beatles connection in there somewhere (a Hofner and a Ric?).
OK, the "classic" 4003 doesn't have the dot inlays, and the 4003S would therefore be more "period correct", but I'd stick with the 4003 and the Hofner.

What's your question? Is it worth it? Financially, not ever. Sentimentally, maybe? Are you looking for someone on here to trade with? I think you'd be better off selling both basses and buying the 4003s outright, if you'd like a 4003s that bad, opposed to trading.
