One of the true greats of the double bass & improvised music. He did a lot of work on finding the dry, wispy non-resonant sounds on the double bass. Classical bass playing tries to push back the sounds of the bow hair and string and reduce things to pitch & wood. Hans pushed the hair and steel of the strings and other material sounds of the instrument forward. His work was rich and full of detail. This digital only release is actually a great place to start with his work, although his whole discography is stellar.
