Our new website has some handy email marketing tools that I'm finally getting around to investigating. I'm thinking I'll email a new special at the beginning of every month, so it won't be a ton of spam in your inbox. But maybe some months the deal will be on something you've been considering purchasing?

The nice thing about an email list that you have to sign up for is that I can tell you exactly what sort of deals I have available. Because it's a private message, minimum advertising policies do not apply. Things that I usually have to say "PM me for details" here on Talkbass, I'll just be able to spell it all out in the emails.

If you'd like to signup for the email list, there's a new section that I just added to the homepage on our website. Scroll down near the bottom and you should see it. Just enter your email address and click the arrow. It will say "Thanks for subscribing" if it had to add you to the list; if you were already on the list, it doesn't say anything.

Some of you are already on the email list if you signed up during checkout as you bought something from our website. There's a checkbox in the checkout process to sign up. It used to be off by default, but I just turned it on by default. Hopefully that's not too rude, but I did that to hopefully grow the email list more quickly.

I only mention the checkout part in case you purchased something through my website in the past. I wouldn't assume that means you're signed up since that checkbox used to be off by default.

So please sign up if you like! I'd love to share news and specials with you.

Shoot, the B-Stock Genzler combo just sold, and that was included in the email. I've deleted that part of the email, and then I decided to add a special on the Genzler pedals. So DR Strings and Genzler pedals will be the February 2023 specials.

Sign up for our emails before 10AM EST on Feb 1 if you want to receive these two offers. The signup is towards the bottom of most pages on our website now.

Cool. So the email went out this morning, and thanks to @Nedmundo for the first order that resulted from it!

I wasn't sure what to expect. You sometimes see stuff online where a company launches something on their website and then their servers meltdown within 5 minutes. I'm sad to report there's no danger of that happening, but I'm happy to at least be playing the game!

There are three specials included in the email: discounts on DR Strings, Suhr pedals and Genzler pedals. The email won't go out again automatically, but I'm happy to forward it to anyone who missed it. Just shoot me an email ([email protected]). And everyone is still more than welcome to visit our website and add themselves to the email list if they want to receive future emails.

One point I should emphasize about discounts on our website... they don't show up until you get all the way to the "checkout" stage. You won't see it take effect on individual product listings, and you won't even see it when you're looking at the shopping cart. It's only once you hit "Checkout" and proceed to the checkout screen that the discount code control appears. And with the links that I email around, that discount code will automatically be populated with the code for whichever link you clicked in the email. You just have to get to the checkout stage to see it.

This is not ideal, I know. But it is what it is, which is to say that we didn't write that part of the software.

@rodl2005 - our website is pretty dumb when it comes to calculating shipping. Most things are either free shipping here in the US (on orders over $25), or there's a flat rate based on the total dollar amount of the sale for international shipping. And some things we just don't allow international shipping at all (heavy stuff like speaker cabinets and amp combos).

Here's the *current rate structure table for international shipping charges vs. total sale amount:
$0-$49.99: $20
$50-199.99: $30
$200-999.99: $75
$1000-4999.99: $150
$5000+: $250

*these rates may vary over time as I encounter more expensive shipping situations

If you ever encounter a situation where you think those shipping rates are out of line, just let me know and I'll be happy to provide a custom quote for shipping on whatever. These basic rules are just put in place to prevent us from losing our butts on most international orders.

With those shipping rates in place, you can take advantage of any of the specials we offer. Though I can already see a situation where the shipping rate probably doesn't look very attractive. The new Genzler Magellan Preamp/DI, for instance, would fall in the $200-$999.99 category, so our website would charge $75 to ship it anywhere outside the US. I know it wouldn't cost that much to do that, I could probably ship it for $30-50 depending on the destination. So in a case like, just shoot me a PM for a quote.

that’s cool. Just let me know if it ever seems out of whack and know there’s little thought behind it other than “let’s not lose money on a typical order”. We’ve put in place a one size fits all approach where one size really does not fit all.

We're halfway through the month!

Just wanted to toss out a reminder that the February specials on DR Strings, Genzler pedals and Suhr pedals will expire at midnight on February 28th.

And looking ahead, the March specials will be on:
- TI Bass Strings
- G&L basses
- Peluso Microphones

You can subscribe to our email list here. That'll get you the March email (and all future emails) if you signup before 8AM EST on March 1. To get the February email, just shoot me an email at [email protected].

I'm feeling a DR Strings special for February. I've got a ton of their strings here, but they're not moving like GHS and TI move. So I'm hoping a little extra special deal might coax some more DR sets out the door?
Hi Greg - Perhaps lack of motion on the DR strings is because the DR link in your sig gives a 404 - Page Not Found error:
https://www.rocketmusicshop.com/collections/bass-strings-dr
LaBella gives me a 404 too:
https://www.rocketmusicshop.com/collections/bass-strings-labella
Your e-commerce site/CMS may have an automatic link checker/redirect function to prevent such errors.

I've recently fallen in love with DR Pure Blues and while Legends aren't my favorite flat ever, they are IME the most slappable and have a fantastic low B.

Thanks for catching that! I recently renamed some of the collections on my website, and that broke those links in my signature. It's fixed now!

Just a few days left to take advantage of the March specials! PM me if you need the discount code for these March deals.
- TI Bass Strings
- G&L basses
- Peluso Microphones

So far, I've tried some targeted deals (specific brands of specific things) with what I'm guessing must seem like fairly modest discounts (typically 10%). I've seen some orders result from the specials (and thanks to all who have ordered!), but it hasn't generated the volume of orders that I was hoping to see.

So for April, I'm going to try the shotgun approach and put an entire category of products on sale (all bass strings & all guitar strings, regardless of brand). And I'm going to get more aggressive with the discount percentage. Hopefully between the broader selection and the deeper discount, maybe that'll scare up some more orders?

You can signup to receive the April and future emails here!

OK, the April special is now running! 15% off all strings (bass and guitar). No minimum quantity required. You just need to hit $25 if you want free shipping CONUS, otherwise CONUS shipping is $4.

PM me your email address if you didn't receive the email, and I'll forward a copy to you.

Now I'm just sitting here waiting for the deluge of orders. Hahahahaha. Right...

The April special has already generated more orders than the March special! Very interesting.

What have I possibly learned? General is better than specific (ALL strings vs. Brand X strings)? Or maybe 15% is worth making the effort to chase a discount while 10% is less so? Or both.

Or maybe people just got some tax refunds and are letting loose. LOL
