Hey all! So I'm not new to this whole bass world by any means, but have been wondering this for a while. Since I got my Spectorcore Fretless 5, I've had it strung up with black nylon tapewound strings from D'Addario. They sound and feel fantastic, but this bass has a Fishman piezo bridge that just does not work with the tapes, so I only had the one regular pickup in use.

Now I have it strung with some ProSteels and the piezo bridge works, but the strings are far too bright for the sound I want this bass to produce. Sure I can roll off the treble and shape the tone that way, but I lose a lot more than I want. Of coures I can just play the hell out of the strings but they're still not close to the sound of the tapes I had on before. Which were exactly what I wanted.

So the question is, are there any roundwound strings out there that function with the Fishman Piezo bridge that sound like tapewounds?

Yeah there's no good reason tapewounds shouldn't work with a piezo.
Unless, of course, the piezo is in a metal saddle and designed in such a manner that relies on the string being the ground conductor from the saddle to the bridge/tailpiece/circuit ground.

As for strings, a shot in the dark — have not tried them myself yet — TI Jazz rounds.

This is exactly the case, they have metal inserts in the saddles, which need steel strings for them to function. As mentioned, I had tapes on there before and it didn't work. I have steels on there now and it does work. It even says on the Spector website that it needs steel strings for the piezo bridge to work (Special Note:
For the proper operation of the Fishman piezo bridge pickup system the strings used must be standard metal. Coated or tape wound strings will not work
) :)

I'll check out the Jazz wound strings, thanks.
GHS Pressurewound would be worth a shot.

I'll check them out :)
