Double Bass Roundwound Upright bass string?

Hey everyone! Recently I was at school and i was restringing my friends bass when i saw that there was a bass with a roundwound E string. It struck me as odd because typically bass strings are flatwound. Does anyone know some roundwound brands? Just wondering, thanks guys!

Traditional wound gut is always roundwound as far as I know.

Maybe a gut core? Because the outer windings are nickel, but im pretty sure ive heard of gut core. Im mainly a bass guitarist too but i play DB at my school orchestra so i may not know too much

Or it could be a different metal, but im assuming nickel because im a bass guitarist! Feel free to correct me

I think some lower strings (A and E) of solid nylon strings might be round wound too. So the string might have a nylon core.
Usually looking at the ball end shows what kind of core has been used for the string.
A mixture of round and flatwound strings as in your picture is indeed a bit unusual, but if it sounds good, why not?

Thats what i was thinking. But yeah the roundwound sounds pretty good. Not my bass either and im pretty sure its unused, but maybe I'll give it a play sometime and check it out!

Labelle Supernils all have a nylon core, and the A&E have a round wire wrap.
The D&G have a round nylon wrap.
