Rumble Studio 40 into Rumble 200?

Hi guys,

So my usual set-up is a Rumble 200 combo and my pedalboard with various pedals and a Trace Elliot preamp wired into the effects loop; this is the rig I keep in my bands practice room. However it's too much hassle to move it up to my lounge (2 floors up), to where I usually practice; so that stays down in the basement practice room.

But I just bought a Rumble Studio 40 and I'm liking the ability to use the bluetooth amp models etc. What I'd like to do is use them both for my gigging rig, because the 40 has some great features. So I'd like best of both worlds... features and bluetooth control of the 40 (and the ability to create set-list models etc. when I'm doing solo practice), but power of the 200 when I play with the band or gig.

So here's my questions...

I'd like to plug into the 40 and then take that into the 200... is that feasible?

The 40 has XLR pre and post out which I presume I can use into the regular input of the 200, would that be the right way to do it?

Also would I continue to use the effects loop of the 200 for my pedals, or would that need to be through the 40?

Any comments or help gratefully accepted...

Cheers, Steve

Yes, with the greatest of ease.

No. That is not the right way to do it. FX Send (effects out) Studio 40 to FX Return Rumble 200. I have this much enlightened configuration, and let me tell you that this is one HIGH SPL RANG DANG DO. Don't be a duffus. Settle Down.

. . . .

If you use the preferred method of instrument cable from Studio FX Send to 200 FX Return, then you can't use the 200's fx loop for your pedals.

You would have one of the two stereo fx loops available on the Studio available, but using that wouldn't get those effects to the 200, only the Studio.

So, if you insist on using your pedals at all, at least until you learn how to replace them with the Studio's built-in effects, you'll have to run them between your bass and the Studio's input.

Well I'm really confused... Whilst it kind of works, the rumble 200 output is really quiet, far less than the 40 itself, and far less than if the guitar is plugged directly into the regular input of the 200. Also the volume knob of the 200 makes no difference to the volume. Are you guys sure this is right?

Oh and this is not including the fx loop for the pedals... which are not attached.

Have you tried it with both of the Studio's 2 FX Sends, one at a time, of course? The manual says to, "Use left channel for mono effects." so that might be the one to use for this.

Is right or left any louder than the other? Might need to clean the contacts by, first, turning everything off, then run the plugs in and out of the jacks, all of them involved on both amps, several times to ensure good connections. See if that helps.

You should connect with other Studio 40 owners in the Fender Rumble Club and share experiences and expectations.

Yes I've tried both sends, but as you suggest I think the left one should be the one. Neither are louder and both the amps are new so should be fine as far as contacts are concerned, but I did run them in and out a few times, contact seems fine and not lose in any way. I'll post in the Rumble club too and see if I can get more knowledge. Thanks for the suggestions.

Before I blow something up... I have a rumble 40 v3 and a rumble 200 v3 and I'd like to piggy back them so I get both cabinets and power amsp working together. I thought the rumble 40 had an effects loop but alas it does not. So I was wondering if I might take the DI from the 200 into the aux or the main input of the 40 and have a reasonable stack setup. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Billy, if yours is the non-modeling Rumble 40 you could do as you ask, but it would be awkward manipulating the 200's controls with the 40 on top. I'd recommend sending the 40's XLR Out to the FX Return of the Rumble 200. This will bypass the 200's preamp and give all control of its full power to the 40, not even the 200's Master will have any effect. The 200 then becomes a powered speaker for the 40!

Thor, please come again to the Rumble Club and show us a pic of your stack and get a membership number. We'd love to have you join us. :smug:
