Hi Guys,
We have a Mackie DL1608 digital mixer running all active speakers. For rehearsals, we want to run our monitor speakers off the aux sends of the mixer so we can get independent mixes without the mains. We will not need the main speakers since the monitors will be plenty of volume. Is this okay to run the mixer without the mains hooked up. We would also like to try the same scenario with headphones for aux out. I don't think it will be a problem, but just want to make sure.
Thanks

headphone out will not provide enough out for a powered speaker.

I think Cteam is saying that in addition to using the DL1608's aux outs to drive powered monitor wedges, his band also wants to try using the aux outs to drive headphone mixes for (some of?) the musicians.

So, yes: that will also work (and no need to have mains hooked up to the Mackie in either case). But as mwbassace says, to get the monitor mixes to a level that will drive headphones you'll need to first run the Mackie's aux out signals into individual headphone amps, or into channels of a multi-channel headphone amp.

Thanks for the responses guys. We ran the monitors without the mains tonight and it worked fine based on your feedback. Thanks derrico1 for clarifying my question about the headphones, that's exactly what we want to do in the future.
