Hello everyone! I am about to put my hands on one of these lovely gems. I was curious to know from those of you who regularly use it live, where do you place it in your signal chain? I expect it, by its own nature, to be put at the end of the chain, working as a "modeler" preamp, but I know of a few persons (like Roberta Sammarelli, Verdena's bass player) that use it as their first pedal, to set the "basic" tone of their bass. I'm more intrigued by the idea of doing like she does and having the SansAmp shaping the character of my instrument and after that go into my other effects, rather that using it to shape the "effected" sound. I would use it like this: tuner - comp - SansAmp - OD - envelope - phaser.
Did anybody tried both settings and notice a real, strong difference in the final sound?

I've been using a Sansamp for years and rarely ever use an amp on stage. Just the SA straight to the board. I recently purchased a Diamond compressor from a member here (thanks Ron) and run it in front of the SA. I use the parallel out on the SA to my tuner which I, think keeps, the tuner out of the signal chain.
It seems to me that running the SA first would kind of defeat the purpose of having it for it's unique tonal qualities as they would be swallowed up by the effects coming after it. I think of it as being just like a bass amp where you plug your bass into the pedals and from there to the amp for final tone tweeks.
But all that said, I've never used a lot of effects so I may be way off here. Good luck in your quest for tonal bliss and let us know what works for you.
B.
