This thing... <Bass : Stiletto Stage-4>
Went to Guitar Center last night to get a couple things and decided to have a quick look at the basses. OOPS!! I've sort of been jonesing for a white bass for years so this one caught my attention easily. Picked it up for a feel and... wow, it's alive! I'm sure there's some new string zing going on there but it was head and shoulders above the Mitchell next to it. The Mitch felt dead dead dead, I didn't even need to pluck a second note on that one. Went and plucked a few others to compare.. Squier active Jaguar - pretty dead, Squier P - decently lively, Ibanez thing that looks kind of like a Jaguar - OMG dead, bury that thing....
It was getting close to closing time so I told the guy there I'd come back to check it out some more. I'm planning on going back this afternoon and probably will buy the thing as it seemed exceptional and really felt good in my hands. I'm curious what anybody thinks of this bass, anything to watch out for etc. Also I'm really curious about the pickups and electronics, since I haven't plugged it in yet. Would be nice if it can pull off some decent vintage tones, but honestly, pretty much all of my other basses do that already. This one would probably be more for modern and slap kind of stuff since the unplugged bass just somehow felt like it wanted to be slapped.
What I'm hoping is that it doesn't sound too sterile or harsh through the amp. Had an Ibanez like that once... maybe a couple of them? Seemed nice enough, but I felt like the preamp had it's thing it wanted to do and it just overpowered any natural sweetness the pickups may have had. Or maybe it was actually the pickups that were lacking, but either way those basses never did put out a tone I could fall in love with.
