I'm about to buy a 5 string for the first time. Played one first time ever this weekend. Guitar Center had 2 and another shop had 1. I didn't touch the $1,100 one (I hate falling in love with an instrument I'll never afford). The other 2 were full of fret buzz. No action. One of em was clearly back-bowed (a $600 LTD). So it's hard to get a gauge on them from the very limited and horribly (not) setup options available here.
Zzsounds offered me a new Stiletto Stealth 5 for $476. I'm having a hard time deciding, especially with a lack of availability to try any first hand.
I see a lot of words that say this bass is geared towards metal, but all the YouTube demos I've seen, no one plays with a pick, and what I've heard sounds like anything but metal. But I know a pick sounds totally different, so I'm really frustrated that I can't get a thorough demo of this to help inform my decision.
I always play with a pick (occasional slap), always with chorus, never with distortion. Will be using AEADG & ADADG tunings. I'm looking for metal sound, Justin Chancellor sound, but my music doesn't really fit into those genres, so really it's my own unique sound and that's the best I can describe it.
I like Blue Steel bright stainless steel strings, sharp, crisp highs, and growling lows. Jazz bass is the opposite of the sound I need. I don't like P-basses, but that may be more an aesthetic reason.
Any feedback or other suggestions under $600 would be appreciated!
