:):):):bassist::hyper:So I’m going to make the jump from wired to wireless. The wireless unit I am looking at is a Sennheiser Freeport Wireless system. I have never used a wireless system before. I’m wondering do wireless systems change your sound ? And has anyone had any experiences with this wireless unit. I’ll list my rig rundown if it helps
G&L L2000
Spector EuroLX with US Haz
Fender Jaguar first run Japanese model
Fender Modern Jazz (2double J style pickups)
GK MB500 bass head
Tech21 VT500 bass head
Mesa Boogie 2X12 bass cab
Mesa Boogie 1X15 bass cab

I’ll still bring cables to all shows in case of any mishaps. Any and all info will be helpful thanks TB Fam! Have a Happy Holidays to you and yours !!!

Not used that unit, but have run wireless for a number of years.. current rig being the Senn EW D1 unit.
Some will say that wireless changes ones tone, but I've never noticed it.
Yes, I also have a cable sitting there.. just in case my batts die!

What frequency is that on? All the ads I see for GC, MF, etc, show 742MHz, no longer available. That freq band is no longer available for wireless mics/guitars in the US. Technically illegal to operate there, is that a used unit?

As for tone issues, all analog wireless units use companders, compress before transmit, uncompress at receiver, so that can change the dynamics a bit if not implemented well. Tonewise, you typically lose a little off the top and bottom and add a bit of noise.

Digital units theoretically avoid most of that, with wide enough freq range, and no companding, but would add a bit of noise, less than typical analog devices. Digital tends to be more expensive.

The freq should be in the item description, or on the unit. If it's 700MHz, I think that's public service stuff, police/fire/ems or commercial cellular service now, so intermittent interference is definitely possible. It's only got 4 available channels from what I can find online. So even if they're set in a legal guitar wireless band, they're still sharing the same UHF frequencies with local DTV stations. With only 4 channels to choose from you need to make sure they're not all blocked by a local TV station. More modern units have lots of available frequencies to choose from since the UHF band is getting way more crowded now with digital TV broadcasts taking up a lot of that spectrum in various areas. It's very possible none of the 4 available channels is clear in your area.

Since the OP hasn’t chimed back in... it looks like the Freeport is an older (NLA) unit that operates in the 700Mhz band and is no longer legal to use in the US. The FCC reassigned that band to emergency services...
It can’t be used in the US and is probably being sold dirt cheap.

If the OP is making a first foray into wireless, then a choice of another unit should occur.
My Senn EW D1 (2.4G) works fine on stage even with all the digital stuff going on around.
There are line 6 systems that are cheaper and work fine also.
I would AVOID the Freeport and do some research on what’s available and LEGAL!!!

Freeport may have been a decent unit in it's day, with 4 choices in freqs onboard, compared to when you had to buy another crystal to put in your wireless to change freqs... But even if it was legal to operate now, there's far better gear out now, it's as outdated as it is illegal.

All I care is that it works. And it works great. Im active duty military and I live on base. I’ve asked several people in Communication. They all said for what I’m using it for won’t matter and I have nothing to worry about ;)
