Has anyone tried these Seymour Duncan PUP's? I have Fender Custom Shop Precision 62's on my American Standards, and I have no complaints at all. Just thought this might be a way to show some love to my Basses, and maybe sound better. According to the SD website, the Hot P's accentuate the mids, more than the Quarter Pounders. One thing for sure, they sure look sharp. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has swapped out their Fender Custom Shop 62's for either her of these.

Here is the deal about PBass pickups:
Even the lowest output ones already have quite a high output.

Paradoxally, when you increase the wiring and consequently the output, it does NOT make the sound being perceived as being more powerful, does NOT help cut through. On the contrary. Here is what it does, it increases the lows and low mids to the point of getting ovewhelmingly mushy, kills the dynamic by yielding a more compressed sound (in a mix it often makes your bass disappear) and lowers the level of high mids which are the signature sound of a good PBass sound. The sound is more scooped hence less punchy.

All it means is stay away from hyped up super high output pickups like the Quarter Pounders (IMO same im the guitar world unless your goal is to drive very high saturations for heavy metal. In the bass world, no one is trying to push high saturation with a bass anyway).

The Fender 63 is a good compromise as it is rounder and bassier than Fender Original '60, Custom Shop '62, SD SPB1 which are all along the line with vintage pickups without betraying the essential punchy characteristics of a PBass. Personally my favorite is Seymour Duncan SPB1. Many other pickup freaks on this forum will tell you that it is one of the most authentic vintage type of PBass pickup.

"hot" P pickups mostly just end up sounding murky.

I own Orig 60pup, SPB-1 and have play with CS62pup and GZR. My CV P got 63pup in it currently.

Orig 60P is hi-mid pup with lack bottom. But it truly woody sounding than other and open-airy tone. when i own it ,i use ECB81 and 7250L, the combination with those string produce harsh high and tame low. The output is well balance string to string. If i own the Orig 60P again, i will givie it a set of broke in Labella 760 flat or GHS 3050.

SPB-1 i bought on this Jan 2016 and sold on March 2016. This pup sound nice , classic P vibe and smooth warm tone. I have try Sadowsky Flat , 9050L and Labella 760FL on it. Sold it not because it sound bad, just i prefer my 63pup with little aggresive punch.

CS62pup really punch with some scoop , just the Hi is little much to my ear.
I feel scare to share my opinion with GZR in Talkbass, it is a Highly recommanded pup right here and got a huge amount of Fans ..... but she is not my pup.

Fender 63pup is thick lo mid present with tame hi. balance output with bigger sound than Orig Ppup. I have try the 63pup with 7250L, Sadow flat, Labella 760, ECB81 and fender 9050 . And finally i end up with 9050CL set.
It is not the best pup for every one, but for me, it is the P vibe i am looking for.
