I can't tell you how i came up with this idea but in an effort to avoid putting another hole in my kit project, i happened upon the SD triple shot for guitar humbuckers.

Long story short it is a circuit and pair of mini switches that are framed in a HB pup frame. When wired correctly you can use the switches to get series, parallel, or split to either coil.

I have cut away most of the plastic, leaving the electronic part intact, to be screwed in right next to my Nordy Big Blademan 4. Nordstrand uses the same wire color coding as SD so soldering leads shouldn't be an issue...

...but am i missing something? It should work even though it was made for guitar, right?

No, this will work on any humbucking pickup. I would love to see the finished product. Those little cables are pretty fragile, so be careful!

Oh yeah I can see how fragile it is! I was just worried that there was some potentially for "coloring" the sound since it wasn't originally designed for bass. It was far easier to cut a small divot on the side of the pickup cavity that try to find a way to squeeze another component into the control cavity...

It doesn't add any EQ changes. It just switches up the wiring of the pickup itself. So, if it isn't there to begin with, it won't add anything. It works with the sound already there.

Cool, SD should probably consider making a little stand alone circuit like this so peeps can use it with any sized Dual Coil PuP. Something a little sturdier. Like I said its far more attractive to just have to cut a little bit of wood off the side of the PuP cavity than have to put a switch it that takes up a lot more space.

Yeah, it is a good idea. I'd love to see a double humbucker Strat pickguard with the switches integrated as well!

So I wrote SD:

I'm in the process of using the circuit from your Triple Shot ring to give my dual coil HB more tonal options w/o having to add a hole for a switch.

Is there any interest in making a "Universal Triple Shot" so that it doesn't have the PuP ring and one could just anchor it next to the PuP?

It would have to be a bit sturdier for such an implementation, I imagine. Would that be something the custom shop could offer?

SD's response:

Thanks for the suggestion. We don't currently have any plan for triple shots configured as you've described. But if we get enough similar suggestions or requests, we may take it into consideration.

---------------

I dunno enough about SD to say that is a blow off response or if they'd seriously consider making the if we expressed interest...

I might just suggest that to their research lab. It would seem 90% of the work is already done.

Heck it would be even practical to build off of this for controlling a quad coil where you'd have all the above settings plus the ability to add P/reverse P configurations...
